CSPU on MS Windows conflicts with OJVM for 19.32

Posted on September 28, 2026 by Flaws and Pitfalls Microsoft Windows Patch Recommendation 21

Several of you mailed me already, and I tried to sort this out internally at first. We ask you to patch monthly, and it is amazing to see that some of you are ready to do this. It just gets a bit frustrating when you run into an issue such as this one where the CSPU on MS Windows conflicts with OJVM for 19.32.

What happened?

This blog post is meant more to avoid frustration than to solve the issue. As of now, I am not sure if there is a MOS …

Strange headline – but you’ll see what I mean. At first, we need to clarify the various download options for patches.

  1. Download patches directly from MOS/ARU by yourself

April 2026 Release Updates (RUs) 19.31 and 23.26.2 are delayed

Posted on April 23, 2026 by Patch Recommendation 69

Yesterday, I delivered a full-day workshop for ora2know in Düsseldorf. And we discussed the most recent RUs as well, especially since “Database Patching” consumed a significant part of the day content-wise. I learned that the RUs have now a target date of April 28 for Linux, and May 12 for other ports. Which means that the April 2026 Release Updates (RUs) 19.31 and 23.26.2 are delayed.

Posted on December 3, 2025 by Oracle AI Database 26ai 65

Many of you have read my blog post from October during Oracle AI World in Las Vegas about Oracle AI Database 26ai replacing Oracle Database 23ai. But the main question remained: When is it available on-prem on non-Oracle hardware? It’s December now, and Christmas is coming soon, it is time for presents. Yes, finally … Oracle AI Database 26ai is going to be available on non-Oracle hardware.

AutoUpgrade 24.8 has been released adding MS Windows patching support

Posted on November 26, 2024 by AutoUpgrade 8

Our developers are amazing. And you may have felt this the past months. In September for OCW2024 we released AutoUpgrade 24.6 with the new patching ability, in October we then released 24.7 improving it significantly and fixing issues based on the first tests, and now in November 2024 AutoUpgrade 24.8 has been released adding MS Windows patching support. Of course, there’s more in AutoUpgrade.

Oracle 19c on Windows may flood your trace file directory

Posted on March 11, 2021 by Flaws and Pitfalls Oracle Database 19c 21

Oh … it’s Windows week here. And all this even though since I didn’t install Oracle on Windows for quite a while. But of course I’m fully aware that many of you out there operate Oracle on Windows. In this particular case thanks to Joël for the pointer to this issue. Oracle 19c on Windows may flood your trace file directory.

What happens?

In every release of Oracle 19c, at least until 19.10.0 BP, you may find out that every few minutes a trace file gets written into the %ORACLE_BASE%\diag\..\..\trace directory. And all …

ORA-12638 on Windows only from Oracle 19.10.0 onwards

Posted on March 10, 2021 by Behavior Change Flaws and Pitfalls Oracle Database 19c 59

You like unexpected changes and surprises, don’t you? And especially those which aren’t in the patch notes or the docs. I blogged about such changes a few weeks ago. And thanks to the people reading this blog, I learned now about another change with Oracle 19.10.0 on the Windows platform. You may receive now an ORA-12638 on Windows only from Oracle 19.10.0 onwards.

What has been changed?

So at first, thanks to Ernst and Marcus for bringing this to my attention. This is an issue which happens on MS Windows only.

Windows Only: Upgrade to Oracle 18.10.0 fails with ORA-01722

Posted on July 8, 2020 by Flaws and Pitfalls Microsoft Windows 0

Liron Amitzi reported this on his blog a few days ago already. And it is a very nasty tiny little issue happening with RUs where the second number of the release enters the two-digit-space, such as 18.10.0. At this point, on Windows Only: Upgrade to Oracle 18.10.0 fails with ORA-01722. This happens late in the upgrade phase.

What is the issue?

The problem here is a tiny little piece in %ORACLE_HOME\admin\catupstr.sql – a SUBSTR function is used in a way that it does not take into account a potential two-digit …

Less is more – faster Oracle database upgrades with less memory

The title of this post sounds a bit weird: Less is more – faster Oracle database upgrades with less memory. Just a few weeks ago, I posted about How long will my upgrade take … revisited. And Daniel adds a very useful piece to the upgrade speed topic. Read about his tests below.

ORA-1722 when upgrading to 19.4.0 or 19.5.0 on Windows

Posted on December 18, 2019 by Flaws and Pitfalls 17

Oh boy – I try to avoid blogging about errors on a specific platform. But as this topic was brought to my attention now 3x in 2 weeks, I think I’ll send it out. And I hope you won’t hit this ORA-1722 when upgrading to 19.4.0 or 19.5.0 on Windows.

ORA-1722 when upgrading to 19.4.0 or 19.5.0 on Windows

What is failing?

The database upgrade only on the MS Windows platform fails when you attempt to upgrade to 19.4.0 or 19.5.0. This means, you downloaded and installed 19.3.0. And then you followed our advice and applied one of the most recent Release Update – ideally 19.5.0, the October …

Oracle Fail Safe is deprecated with Oracle Database 19c

Posted on October 18, 2019 by Fail Safe 2

I wanted to put this on the blog for quite a while but forgot to do so. Since Oracle Database 19c, Oracle Fail Safe has been deprecated. What does this mean?

Deprecation of Oracle Fail Safe

Only strange thing: we all get older … 😉 I’m really looking forward to DOAG 2017 Conference from Nov 21-24, 2017.

And if you are not a German native speaker, don’t worry at all. Many talks get simultaneously translated into English. The translators are amazingly good. It’s …

MOS Note 1454618.1: Quick Reference to Database PSUs, CPUs, BPs and Patchsets

Posted on April 26, 2016 by MyOracle Support Patch Recommendation 8

Sometimes my mouse arm gets tired by clicking myself through MOS notes just to download a specific PSU or BP – and as I experiment a lot with PSUs and BPs right now I clicked a lot in the past days and nights.

Usually I’d start with either MOS Note:161818.1 – then click on the release link (e.g. 12.1.0.x) in the left-most column, then into the Availability and Known Issues not (e.g. MOS Note:1683799.1 for Oracle Database 12.1.0.2.0) and then select the most recent patch from the list of Current Recommended Patches.

Even though we all agree that you should …

Oracle Database Patch Set 11.2.0.2 for Windows (Patch: 10098816) is now available for download from support.oracle.com:

Please keep in mind:

  • It’s a full install – you don’t have to download 11.2.0.1 first, you can start right with 11.2.0.2
  • Installation will be done by default into a separate %ORACLE_HOME% .- and this is our strong recommendation.
