DBUA Deprecation and future Desupport in Oracle Database 23c

Daniel pointed me to Tim Hall’s blog post about deprecated and desupported features in Oracle Database 23c. And his first bullet point mentioned is the DBUA Deprecation and future Desupport in Oracle Database 23c. Since Daniel and I agree that this needs a bit more explanation, we would like to share more background information with you.

Deprecated vs Desupport?

At first, let me refresh an old topic. What does deprecated mean, and what is the difference to desupport? A long while ago I wrote this blog post about it, and nothing …

You may have recognized that I don’t update the blog as frequent as usual. And this is the right time to do a quick recap: Support Periods for Oracle 11.2.0.4, on-prem and in the cloud.

You may have realized that you will find mostly on-prem database upgrade and migration topics covered on my blog. Which doesn’t mean that you can’t use most of these techniques to migrate to the cloud either. But it’s really hard to write about everything in full detail. Hence, today I’d like to introduce you to Cloud Migrations: The New Kid on the Blog – DOHDATABASE.com. And no, I was never a fan of this American boyband from the 80s and 90s 😉

Automatic SQL Plan Management – Slight Change with 19.4.0

Posted on October 2, 2019 by Mike.Dietrich Oracle Database 19c SPM - SQL Plan Management 3

I did blog in more detail about Automatic SQL Plan Management in Oracle 19c. And Roy and I had really a lot of discussion in every customer meeting at OOW19 about it. But there is a slight change to where the feature is available with Oracle 19.4.0.

Slight Change

When you compare the settings of SQL Plan Management between Oracle 19.3 and 19.4, you’ll see the difference:

column parameter_value format a45
column parameter_name format a25
set pages 200

SELECT PARAMETER_NAME, PARAMETER_VALUE
  FROM DBA_ADVISOR_PARAMETERS
  WHERE TASK_NAME = 'SYS_AUTO_SPM_EVOLVE_TASK'
    AND PARAMETER_VALUE <> 'UNUSED'
  ORDER
