Hands-On Lab

Database Upgrade Hands-On Lab

There are actually two labs at the moment:

Why are there two labs? We use the 18c lab already when we work with customers in 1:1 workshops. But we can’t offer it for download as long as the on-premises release of Oracle Database 18.3.0 is generally available. Once it is available, the 18c lab will be available for download on this page (approx early August 2018).

Upgrade to Oracle Database 12.2.0.1 – Public Lab – May 2018

  • Download Hands On Lab “Upgrade, Migrate, Consolidate to Oracle Database 12.2.0.1
  • Hands-On Lab Instructions
  • Known Issues:
    • HOL Part 1
      • If the Upgrade Phase 107 takes more than 3 or 4 minutes please stop the upgrade with CTRL-C and restart it with catctl.pl -R -l /home/oracle catupgrd.sql – it should then complete within the given time. At this point of the lab there are some privileges cleaned up with DBMS_ASSERT – and in some cases this takes up to 45 minutes – not reproducible.
    • HOL Part 3
      • impdp fails in 1 out of 100 cases with:
        • $ impdp parfile=/home/oracle/IMP/ft.par

        • If this happens, reset the virtual box network configuration (disabled it, re-enabled it, set it back to NAT). Then start the image again – and now it should work.
  • Overview – what’s in the lab:
    Upgrade Hands-On Lab - Oracle Database 12.2.0.1 - May 2018

Upgrade to Oracle Database 18.2.0 – Internal Lab – June 2018

The lab for Oracle Database 18c upgrades is setup similar as the previous 12.2.0.1 lab. The big difference: we included a load generator and made the instructions online.
