Pushing the limits: Migrate >1000 databases from AIX to ExaCC
How do you migrate over 1500 database from IBM AIX to ExaCC machines with a reasonable amount of effort? Can you utilize your existing ZDLRA as a migration vehicle? Can you script Transportable Tablespaces in such a way that it completes migrations from non-CDBs to PDB without user intervention? This is a technical talk about what’s possible and how to really push the limits of the Oracle database technology. But it covers also the downsides, the real facts – and the success factors for such a hugh and complex project. It a Cloud Migration talk – for DBAs and Managers.
Welcome to the Jungle: Database Patching Insights
Nobody loves patching. But it has to be done. And there are so many surprises waiting for you. Always changing acronyms. OPatch versions which refuse to apply the freshly downloaded patch. Superseeded patch bundles. Merge patches. One-offs. SPUs and CPUs and PSUs. And there’s datapatch. It sounds like a true jungle. And this talk will shed some light. It is meant to give directions about which patches are really essential, and which aren’t. How to apply them efficiently. And what you should do if OPatch gives you a strange error and fails. It is actually the presentation I never planned to do – but I think it is necessary to avoid frustration and explain the black box “patching” from an insider’s perspective.
Migrate to Autonomous Database – ADW or ATP
Every customer has databases which don’t need a lot attention. They should be available, but they are not critical. But they need to run on a server somewhere, they need to be maintained, patched, tuned, upgraded, backuped. These are the ideal candidates for a migration to the Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud. It is not complicated – everybody can do it. You can do it as well. I will show you with small demos how you can migrate databases into ADW or ATP. No marketing done in this talk. Only technical content from a DBA’s perspective. You can still keep control – but it can help you a lot. The presentation contains several demos
