Hands-On Labs for Upgrade, Migration and Patching
All our labs are hosted on the LiveLabs platform where you can find a ton of useful Oracle labs for almost all features or topics at no cost. Usually, you only need an Oracle SSO (Single Sign On) user almost everybody should have already. If not, it is easy to register for one.
We walked away from downloading images but in case you need one, let me know.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to Upgrade to Oracle 26ai
This is our core lab, and it offers so much more than just upgrading. We added an application to generate load on the database, you have various homes to play with things such as AutoUpgrade, migration with Data Pump, Multitenant, encryption, fallback and rollback, and most importantly, performance features such as AWR, SQL Plan Management, SQL Tuning Advisor, Real Application Testing with SQL Performance Analyzer – and much more. This lab sets almost no limits – feel free to explore all of it.
Lab: Hitchhiker’s Guide for Upgrading to Oracle Database 26ai
Overview:
-
- Upgrade Oracle Database using AutoUpgrade
- Convert to multitenant architecture using AutoUpgrade
- Convert to multitenant architecture using Refreshable Clone PDBs
- Convert to multitenant architecture using Data Pump
- Ensure performance stability
- Capture workload information
- Detect regressing statements using SQL Performance Analyzer
- Fix bad plans using SQL Tuning Advisor
- Avoid plan regressions with SQL Plan Management
- Restore failed upgrade
- Downgrade a pluggable database
Patch Me If You Can – Oracle Database
Our second lab is all about patching the Oracle Database environment safely and smoothly. You will explore not only patching best practices but also the AutoUpgrade capabilities of downloading patches from My Oracle Support (MOS) and installing your new Oracle home automatically followed by all patching actions – unattended.
Lab: Patch Me If You Can – Oracle Database
Watch a short intro video about this lab.

Next Level Migration with Cross-Platform Transportable Tablespaces
Our third lab is important for everybody planning to do a migration with xTTS cross-platform, and typically cross-Endianness as well. You will explore the new M5 incremental backup migration shell scripts which will ease not only your migration experience but also speed up the entire process significantly. Try it out.
Lab: Next Level Migration with Cross-Platform xTTS
Overview:
-
- Check and prepare source database
- Create target database
- Prepare M5 migration script
- Initial backup/restore
- Incremental backup/restore
- Test migration
- Final preparations
- Complete migration
- Post-migration tasks
What’s coming next?
We are working already on a lab environment for migrations to Autonomous Database where you can explore the whole process from identifying the right databases, checking the migration – and actually migrate them into the ADB Serverless environment.
Stay tuned for more …
