What’s the topic?
Statistics and Migrations – Well-kept Secrets Revealed is the topic, and this got raised multiple times by our Black Belts team in regards to migrations to Oracle Autonomous AI Database. How should we move statistics, or should we simply ignore them and count on ADB doing the right thing? Furthermore, do concepts differ when I migrate just from on OS platform to another, and maybe from Oracle Database 19c to Oracle AI Database 26ai?
For upgrades, this is straight forward and simple. We don’t touch your data, we don’t reorg anything (unless you do this after upgrade), and AutoUpgrade takes care on dictionary and fixed objects stats. Check – all set. That’s simple, isn’t it?
But migrations are a different topic. It could be that you migrate to a different hardware platform such as Exadata, and you could now massively benefit from all the optimizations being done. But would this work when you keep your old stats? This topic becomes even more interesting when you migrate to Oracle Autonomous AI Database or Lakehouse.
In addition, you may ask yourself: Are there differences between ADB-S, ADB-D and Lakehouse?
