I am jealous, and so happy. There are so happy about the fact that we have such skilled minds in the industry. One of them is Marcus Vinicius, an Oracle ACE Pro from Brazil who lives in Dallas, TX in the US. And besides being a real wizard he is also a super-nice guy. No idea where all these Brazilian Oracle experts “grow” but I am very proud to have two of the best in the world in our team. But back to Marcus. AutoUpgrade Composer – what’s that?

The AutoUpgrade Composer is very useful. It creates the CONFIG file for AutoUpgrade for you. And it is not in beta phase anymore, it’s stable prod now.

Why do I recommend it?

There are two reasons apart from the fact that it eases the creation of config files for me as well. At first, I see every second day a config file sent to me from a colleague, a customer or in an SR – and I need to double-check it for correctness. This is basically the second-most-important thing I do. First check is the AutoUpgrade version. Using an automation to create such a file reduces the potential for human error. A simple typo can lead to minute-long searches and frustration. Not good.

And the second reason is that I tried to use an AI engine to give me an AU config file since I was too lazy to write one for a test I wanted to do. I told the engine what I need, the homes I have, the SIDs of my databases etc. And of course, what the purpose is. Maybe I could have written it by myself in the same amount of time. The result was shocking – in a bad way. It was well formatted, some things were really useful. But 4 (!!) of the AutoUpgrade parameters being displayed nicely ordered where a hallucination, an invention by the AI engine. This is not unexpected, and I will discuss this in another blog post one day. But it was completely useless.
