While I blogged in the past already several times about how important the Data Pump Bundle Patch for all kinds of migrations is, a question was in my inbox this morning: Is there a separate note for the Data Pump Bundle Patch for Oracle Database 23ai?
Download the Data Pump Bundle Patch for Oracle 23ai
We shared an intro about the Data Pump Bundle Patch in our Virtual Classroom Seminar #13 a long while ago. And talked about it in our Oracle Cloud World and User Group talks in more detail.
In brief, you can apply the Bundle Patch online, it will register in the inventory as a single patch bundle where you can easily identify it. The fixes, as of 19.25.0 it contains over 200 fixes now, are often crucial and do not only fix known issues but make patching generally faster.
In addition, we are working on allowing the run of datapatch – which currently may break any active Data Pump jobs when you applied the bundle and run datapatch then – fully online. Watch out for news here. You can read more about this topic in Apply the Data Pump Bundle Patch – non-rolling?
Most of you will be on Oracle Database 19c right now but this will change over time certainly. And since a colleague asked this morning whether we have a separate note to list the contents and download the Data Pump Bundle Patch for Oracle Database 23ai, I thought I quickly put it on the blog for later reference:
- Oracle Support Document 2819284.1 (Data Pump Recommended Proactive Patches For 19.10 and Above)
- Oracle Support Document 3056856.1 (Data Pump Recommended Proactive Patches For 23ai)
We asked the MOS note owner to add a cross-reference between the two notes to make it easier finding the other one.
On the side, there are no Data Pump Bundle Patches available for innovation releases such as Oracle Database 21c.

Hi, why isn’t it possible to include it in the RU?
Hi Roland,
Data Pump patches are marked as non-rolling since DBMS_DATAPUMP and DBMS_METADATA can’t be changed when you run a data pump job on node 2 while somebody is running datapatch on node 1. This will change soon as of April/July with Deferred SQL Patching. Then we can include Data Pump into RUs. Watch out 🙂
Cheers,
Mike
Mike,
I was just looking at the patch documentation for 19.25 Data Pump bundle patch 37056207 and it says: This patch is non-RAC Rolling Installable. What does this mean?
Thanks,
Arun
Hi Arun,
this is correct – and I think I should blog about it. Reason is that DBMS_DATAPUMP and DBMS_METADATA aren’t RAC Rolling.
But we are going to change this soon with Deferred SQL Patching. Watch out …
Cheers,
Mike
Hello, Mike,
Thank you for this post, it is informative.
But I still have some questions:
Why does Oracle keep DataPump Patches as a separate patchset?
Why does Oracle offer an continuoulsy increasing set of patches as separete DataPump Patchset instead of include DataPump Patchset into RU? (like oneoff patches from 555.1 note).
And why the same story will continue for 23ai?
Include DP-pathces into RU, please.
Thank you!
Hi Yury,
Data Pump (or more precise: DBMS_DATAPUMP and DBMS_METADATA) are flagged as “non rolling”, and hence patches can’t be included into an RU since RUs are guaranteed to be rolling. This will change soon (April/July this year) when we roll out Deferred SQL Patching. It will cure this and allow Data Pump fixes to be included in RUs then. And hopefully, other teams will pick up this option, too.
Cheers,
Mike
Mike is there a way to check datapump for what patches have been applied?
Hi Angela,
you mean “which Data Pump patches have been applied to a database” or “checking with Data Pump which patches have been applied”?
Sorry if I misunderstood your question – but I’d like to give you the correct answer.
If you want to check WITH Data Pump, there is no way to do so.
If you want to check WHICH Data Pump fixes have been applied, you need to check the inventory, either with a call with DBMS_QOPATCH or parse through the inventory file. Data Pump fixes identify themselves usually via the text – and especially the highly recommended Bundle Patch is visible as a single fix (standing in for over 200 fixes right now) in the inventory.
Cheers,
Mike
Thank you Mike.
I did find a query to check which patches have been applied. (DBA_REGISTRY_SQLPATCH)
What I am looking for now is a way to be notified when a patch for Data Pump patch has been released.
Hi Angela,
you can use the script from my blog (see https://mikedietrichde.com/scripts ==> check_patches_19c.sql) if you want.
And Data Pump Bundle Patches ALWAYS get released together with the RU, at worst a day later or so. This means when you we release 19.27.0 in April the same day the Data Pump Bundle Patch will be available, too, containing a number of new fixes you can look up with this MOS Note:

Hi Mike!
Is this Deferred SQL Patching feature out by now? If so, it’s for only 23ai or for 19c too? It will be very good when DPBP may be part of a RU.
Hi Leonardo,
we wait for the BLRs being done (should be next week). Once they are done, I will blog about it with explanations and such, and links to the one-offs you need right now. It will be on top of 19.27 and 19.28 and 23.9 for now. We will wait for testing results, and once it is good, we’ll include it into an RU in 2026.
Cheers,
Mike
Hi Mike,
thanks for providing an update regarding the progress of the “Deferred SQL Patching” feature.
Would it be possible to provide any additional information, such as bug numbers?
Looking forward to use this feature and to your blog post with detailled explanations.
Best regards
Martin
Martin,
please send me an email to mike.dietrich at oracle.com, and I will follow up with you.
Cheers,
Mike
