The Sky is Blue from now on!

You may or may not have seen it but a good part of the tech community, especially dealing with Oracle technology or tech generally, has moved on now. And actually I did just the same. So, The Sky is Blue from now on!

What does it mean?

I use so-called social media for two reasons mostly. At first, I would like to stay in touch with friends, colleagues and customers. And secondly, I would like to read and learn about new things. With “new things” I mean technology stuff, blog posts – or when somebody I know joined a new company or (well, this happens these days) retired.

As most of us have learned over the past years, some platforms we use(d) became environments where political or religious opinions got exchanged, often in a more and more aggressive fashion. You have not read such posts from me, and you won’t. On Facebook or LinkedIn I can be pretty selective. And over the past years I did several clean-outs. Many of my friends did the same.

But one platform changed a lot. I have no chance to block messages I am not interested in of a certain person. And I had advertising in my timeline I’d rather don’t want to see. You know what platform I am talking about: Twitter (or whatever name it has these days).

Over the past months I realized that I hardly look at the platform anymore. People commented on tweets or wrote direct messages, and I answered often weeks later since I did not see it. I was not interested looking at it mostly since I saw too many things I didn’t want to see. Well, and this reminds me that I couldn’t even have a time line on my blog, and I couldn’t even publish a new blog post on the platform anymore either.

The Sky is Blue from now on!

From now on, I will use BlueSky. I won’t delete my twitter handle since colleagues warned me that others immediately take it and pollute the platform even more but now under “my” name. Not cool but it shows the entire dilemma of something which was really good a few years ago.

Times are changing.

From now on, you can easily follow me on BlueSky. Most of my tech friends have moved as well. And at least for now it looks and feels a bit such as twitter felt a loooong while ago … clean, simple and informative. Let’s see how long this will be the case – I hope for the best.
