There are just two days left to sign up for our Virtual Classroom Seminar 16: Release and Patching Strategy for Oracle 19c and 23c. We’ll talk to you on Wednesday, May 10 at 16:00h CET.

What’s the topic?
We’ll try to cover everything for your best release and patching strategy with Oracle Database 19c of course, but also moving forward to Oracle Database 23c. Our big focus will be several aspects of patching. You’ll hear us talking not only about standard database patching but especially about patching in RAC environments.
We’ll put together a lot of tips and tricks. And we will give insights into datapatch, and what it actually does in which order. As usual, we serve you with the most important MOS notes. And slides will be downloadable at the time the event starts from the Upgrade Blog.
As usual, this is your chance to ask us anything – regarding the topics we’ll talk about.
Wednesday, May 10, 2023 – 16:00h CET is your chance to learn everything about the current and future Oracle Database Release Strategy and Patching.
How do you sign up?
That’s very simple – click here. If the Register Now tab does not show up, please use another browser. Sometimes this happens when you have plugins installed protecting you from tracking and other things.
Will we share slides and the video?
Of course, you’ll be able to download the slides – and usually a week after the event, you’ll get access to the on-demand recording, too. But you will miss the opportunity to discuss the topic with us during the event. Hence, it is much better to attend live rather than watching just the recording.
And we are looking forward to talk to you soon!

Will Oracle 23c be a LTS release?
Yes, it will be a LTS.
Cheers,
Mike

Guys, I registered for this session, these sessions are always full of good information.
When I got the confirmation it is showing me the time as 3PM London time?
Hi Angela,
yes, we always schedule for 16:00h CET (central European time) which is 15:00h BST (British) which is 10:00h EDT in the US.
Cheers,
Mike
Question on slide #130: When I run this sql, I get version column values of 19.0.0.0.0 instead of the full version 19.19.0.0.0 . Is this a typo, or is there some configuration difference that would cause this?
Hi Andrew,
me bad – I will correct this. It is indeed VERSION_FULL, and not VERSION (as the slides says).
Cheers,
Mike
Not sure if there is another place to discuss these seminars after the fact, as this is the first one I have attended, so if there is a better place to do so, let me know! GREAT content, packed with a lot of stuff.
One thing I noticed with the NEW awesome ability to remove inactive patches, using ‘opatch util deleteinactivepatches’ but you can also list them out as well using ‘opatch util ListOrderedInactivePatches’. Running that command alone took 9 minutes and in one particular Oracle Home listed 19 inactive patches. I do have one question about this. When it says ‘ListOrdered’ do you know what Order it is referring to because the listing it provides doesn’t appear to be in any recognizable order that I can see?
Hi Lance,
please see here:
Oracle Support Document 2942102.1 (OPatch 12.2.0.1.37+ Introduces a New Feature to Delete Inactive Patches in the ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage Directory ) can be found at: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=2942102.1
Cheers,
Mike
PS: And yes, it takes so long because opatch carries around all this nonsense history over years. At least, we have now a way to remove it in a supported way.
