I’m scared – time flies so quickly. Yesterday evening I returned from vacation, and this morning I spoke to Daniel and we both realized: There is only one week to go since DOAG Conference 2022 is next week already. Yes, in September 2022. Not as usually in November – September it will be this year. And we hope to see you there next week in my hometown, Nürnberg for another great DOAG conference.
Tuesday
Tuesday will be a theme day this year – and we’ll have two talks there. We? Yes, Daniel and I will do all sessions together this year just because it’s way more fun for us, and hopefully for you too.

AutoUpgrade 2.0 – A big step into the future of database upgrades
Tuesday 20.09.2022 | 09:15 – 10:00 | Kopenhagen
We love AutoUpgrade since it eases your upgrade experience. And we improved it significantly with the May release in 2022. AutoUpgrade is now more powerful and can not only upgrade your database and migrate it into Multitenant, but it can clone across servers, patch your database to a new RU, you can have refreshable clones, use the new REST API for automation in the cloud, distribute your load to several RAC instances – and last but not least, have complete TDE support and secure upgrades with your own AutoUpgrade keystore. And of course, we will demo the best improvements.

No Slides Zone: Upgrade to Oracle 19c and migrate to Multitenant
Tuesday 20.09.2022 | 14:00 – 15:30 | Kopenhagen
In this Open Session the input is given from the audience and the speakers will deep dive in topics related to the Upgrade to 19c and to the migration of databases in conventional to the multitenant architecture. They will work on a flipchart and show examples using their demo environements in theit virual box and in the Oracle Cloud.
We look a lot forward to both of these sessions but especially to the No Slides Zone. In Vienna earlier this year we did this with “Patching”, and thanks to our audience there it was one of the best sessions we’ve had in many years. We’d like to repeat this in Nuernberg – so these 1.5 hours all

Patch me if you can! Database Patching News, Improvements and Secrets
Wednesday 21.09.2022 | 10:00 – 10:45 | Tokio
Everybody loves database patching … NOT. But it needs to be done, ideally quarterly. While customers experienced longer patching times, especially in highly complex environments and with Multitenant container databases, there were a lot of undiscovered things happening. As a result, we made plenty of improvements to opatch and opatchauto. Furthermore there are still a lot of things you can influence with the right patching strategy. We will show you not only the new capabilities but also the improvements – and give you plenty of tips to improve your patching experience.
- Panel: Upgrade and MigrationsWednesday 21.09.2022 | 14:00 – 14:45 | St. Petersburg
Together with: Johannes Ahrends, Matthias Mann and Markus FlechtnerThe last virtual DOAG conferences we did this online – but being on stage will be phenomenal this time compared to a virtual panel for sure. I’m really looking forward to it.
Thursday
I have no session on Thursday but I will be around most of the day since there are so many excellent tech sessions I’d like to attend. Conferences are mostly for networking and learning from others but also for getting inspiration. So I hope to meet you somewhere, and we’ll have a chat about upgrades, migrations, patching or just anything.
Let’s meet next week in Nürnberg!
–Mike
PS: In the unlikely event you haven’t registered yet, please find all the necessary information here: DOAG Conference 2022
Hi Mike, looking forward to seeing you in Nürnberg – even if it will be hard to present about the same topic on Tuesday shortly after you 🙂
Acutally, I experience problems with autoupgrade with non$cdb to pdb in SE2 right now: -mode analyze always fails with due to TDE check errors – but obviously, in SE2 we do not use TDE. Doing the remote clone and upgrade manually works fine. I have opened an SR about this last week, but so far I have heard nothing… hope this can be resolved until next week so I can use the demo in my presentation.
See you,
Cheers!
Susanne
Hi Susanne,
I put this on the agenda for our team call today and get back to you once I have more details or an update.
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks Mike, that would be really appreciated. I can also provide the error messages or the SR number if required.
Cheers,
Susanne
Hi Susanne, yes, please send me the SR number – and if you haven’t done, could you please upload the entire zip file created with:
java -jar autoupgrade.jar -config yourconfig.cfg -zip
to the SR? Please just drop me an email to mike.dietrich@oracle.com.
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Susanne,
the team will get back to you directly – I shared your email if you don’t mind.
Thanks,
Mike
Great, thanks Mike!
