Many people on the northern hemisphere will escape during July into the summer holidays. But we won’t. Instead, thanks to Sai Penumuru, we will give seven webinars for the aioug. And we are looking forward to talk to you soon at the aioug Webinar Series July 2021: Database Upgrade and Migrations.
When will it happen?
This morning I looked into my calendar. And I realized: Wow, July 2021 is just a few days away. Roy will start with the first session on Friday, July 2. And then myself, Rodrigo, Daniel, Fred and Bill will host the following webinars.
So mark your calendar – July 2, July 7, July 9, July 14, July 16, July 21 and July 23 – every Friday and Wednesday in July until July 23 you’ll have the chance to participate in one of our sessions about much more than just upgrades and migrations. But find out more below.
Even better, time zone wise, the webinars all will happen at 18:00h Indian time – which means that even on the east coast of the US you’ll be able to easily participate at a convenient time.
We will be live at:
We hope this will work well for a lot of people.
What are the topics?
Actually, when Sai did ask, we were really excited. And it took us only 24 hours to put together a list of topics.

Release Model and Patching Strategy Oracle Database 19c is the Long Term Support Release. But should you upgrade to it or rather wait for Oracle 21c, the Innovation Release? And what are the actual differences between Premier and Extended Support, and what is Market Driven Support? Roy will start his session with a general overview on the Oracle database release schedule. You’ll be crystal clear afterwards to which release you need to upgrade now. Still, database upgrade means much more than upgrade. And before you upgrade, you need to patch your future Oracle home usually. Patching sometimes is a bit of a mystery. And Roy will guide you safely through the database patching jungle. He will not only cover OJVM but also share important tips regarding datapatch. |

AutoUpgrade 19c – From Zero to Hero in 60 minutes Database upgrades are usually no fun. And for each database you’ll do at least two of them, one for testing, and one for the go-live. AutoUpgrade is the only recommended way to upgrade Oracle databases nowadays. It allows you to upgrade as many databases as you’d like to in parallel – and fully unattended. Database upgrades have never been easier. In this talk we will start from setting up a config file, the only task you’ll have to do by yourself. But everything else from prechecks to upgrade to post-upgrade-tasks are handled by AutoUpgrade. It can ease your daily live as DBA or developer a lot – and management will be thrilled also by the level of automation you can easily reach. In 60 minutes, you’ll become an upgrade hero with AutoUpgrade. |
July 9 |
Migration to Oracle Multitenant – Deep Dive One of the questions we hear the most often: Do I have to migrate to Multitenant when I move to Oracle 19c? Rodrigo will not only answer this question but share the most straight forward way to migrate your non-CDB into a PDB. And even if you had no plans to move to Multitenant right now, after this talk you’ll start right away of using the free offering of having up to 3 user created PDBs without the need for a Multitenant license. And Rodrigo will cover much more. There are a few extra things to take care on, especially when you have standby databases and if you use TDE. This talk will equip you with all of the important things about your next migration to Oracle Multitenant. |
July 14 |
Zero Downtime Migration – The easy way to the cloud Almost daily we talk to customers who start migration databases into the Oracle Cloud. But as soon as your database is larger, and has certain downtime requirements, and especially in cases where you have many databases, you need a tool to assist you and do this migration for you. In addition, having the least possible downtime often is very important. Daniel today will guide you through ZDM, Zero Downtime Migration. From an overview about the ZDM concept to possibilities over to setup tasks and the actual migration. After 60 minutes you’ll be ready to dig into your first cloud migration with Oracle ZDM. |
July 16 |
Deep dive into AutoUpgrade from one of the AutoUpgrade architects – An Engineering Approach This will be a special talk by one of the AutoUpgrade’s architects. Frederic will give you insights not only into AutoUpgrade and upgrade internals but also talk about the engineering approach behind it. You’ll get to see one of the best and coolest tools Oracle has developed recently from a developer’s perspective. This talk isn’t just for DBAs but also for developers and engineering experts. |

Data Pump – News, Best Practices and the Super-Patch Do you still use Oracle Data Pump? No worries, we use it very often as well. Especially with platform and cloud migrations, with the move to PDBs and as fallback tool, Data Pump gets used more often than ever before. And we constantly improve it and add new features on one hand. But on the other hand we try to improve performance as well, not only for the tool itself but also for the patching activities. Bill will give you an overview on “What’s new” but also cover many “Best Practices” for Data Pump. And in addition, he will explain you what the Data Pump Super Patch is, and why you need to apply it to your Oracle Homes right now. |
July 23 |
Why you need to patch!! And what can happen if you don’t … Do you patch quarterly? No?? We know that not every customer is able to patch on a regular basis. And we often see environments with a patch state from five years ago. Certainly, patching is no fun task. But patching is not only important but essential these days. Rodrigo will show you today why you really really really need to patch your databases regularly. And what happens, if you don’t … We all read in the press about these cases. But it will be way more shocking when you see what really can happen. Don’t expect too many slides but more live demos instead. |
You’ll be able to dig into so much more topics than “just upgrades” together with us.
