I have received this question multiple times in the past days, especially when I presented at the Slovenian Oracle User Group Conference about the new Release and Patching Mode but also via emaill: Are OJVM patches included in the Oracle 12.2 RU / RUR? Let me clarify this in the below blog post.
Are OJVM patches included in the Oracle 12.2 RU / RUR?
At first I did check MOS Note: 1929745.1 – Oracle Recommended Patches — “Oracle JavaVM Component Database PSU and RU” (OJVM PSU and OJVM RU) Patches. But besides having RU mentioned in the Note’s title and one headline paragraph there’s no trace of Oracle Database 12.2 or RU and RUR patch bundles.
But MOS Note: 2285040.1 – Release Update and Release Update Revisions for Database Proactive Patch Program is more helpful:
Q6: What is changing for 12.2.0.1 in July 2017?
A: For 12.2.0.1 in July 2017, Oracle is releasing a Database RU, a Grid Infrastructure RU, and an OJVM RU. There are no PSUs or Bundle Patches for the 12.2.0.1 Release. For October 2017, a first RUR for the Database July 2017 Release Update is planned. Likewise, for January 2018, a second RUR for the Database July 2017 Release Update is planned. This is also reflected in Figure 1 above.
RURs for Grid Infrastructure and OJVM will be provided in a similar manner, should they be necessary.
So clearly there must be a separate OJVM RU.
Download the OJVM RU
I did check the Download Assistant for RUs, RURs, BPs, PSUs, Patch Sets and Releases. And yes, here they are.
Select “OJVM RU/PSU/Bundle Patches” first:

Download Assistant – not only for OJVM RUs – MOS Note:2118136.2
Then select the release you’d wish to download OJVM for – in my case it will be Oracle 12.2.0.1:

MOS Note: 2118136.2 – Select the desired release
And here they are:
You can either download the pure RU – or the Combo of Database+OJVM or the Combo of Database+GI+OJVM. Behind patch id 2663246 there’s actually hidden (or included):
Database RU, OCW RU, ACFS RU, DBWLM RU and Tomcat RU – plus in a separate directory the OJVM RU.
Further Information
You may please check the README of the October 2017 OJVM RU for further details.
In addition you may also read a bit more about OJVM patching and if it affects you in my blog series about OJVM Patching.
