Oracle generally certifies its software against the base operating system release. All OS patches published by the OS vendor on top of the base OS are basically certified as well. Whether Microsoft releases a new service pack or HP a new kernel patch there won’t be any extra certification done by Oracle.
But nevertheless based on our support and field experience Oracle Support recommends several OS patches and parameter settings. Check these Metalink Notes prior to upgrading your database release – and check them every once in a while:
